Free Pattern - The Bucket Hat
27 March 2024We now offer a free sewing pattern and maker's guide to sew your own Bucket Hat. The bucket hat is a timeless and versatile accessory that effortlessly combines style and functionality. With its soft, downward-sloping brim and snug, rounded crown, the bucket hat has a laid-back, casual feel that offers protection from the sun and other elements.
We have compiled this free pattern and sewing guide in collaboration with Natasha Hua @nhua_design. This digital pattern can be printed at home and only needs half a metre of fabric. The hat is available in two sizes - S/M or M/L.

SUITABLE FABRICS
A wide range of fabrics would work for the Bucket Hat, especially any light to medium weight, woven fabric. A printed cotton, a soft denim or a colourful linen would look compliment the casual shape. Our example above is made in both our calico and our beautiful pale pink Mikkusu Cotton & Linen.
There are many opportunities to adapt and personalise this pattern. You could use contrasting fabrics for the inside and the outside to create a reversible version, you could use a coated cotton to create a shower proof hat, or even a velvet to create an occasion hat. Below are some examples (clockwise) Mini Checker Vermillion, Block Print Bagru Cross Blue, Mikkusu Cotton & Linen Pink and Selvedge Denim Todt.
